Echoing What’s Important To You

You can tell that he is the one by how the butterflies in your stomach make you feel. You know that he is the one when you start to stutter every time you set your gaze on him. You know that you are falling deep when every love song you hear and every romantic movie that you watch makes you feel dreamy and hopeful. You know that he is the one when you analyze everything that he said, asking yourself whether there are any signals that he is feeling the same way.

Would you believe me if I were to say that I used to have a stone-hearted heart? Yes, I really did have such a heart when I was younger. You won’t find me shedding a tear or two for anybody. You can put it that I’m as cold as an ice. Well, probably not that cold as I still have some warmth too. =)

The first time I was away from my parents was when I first set foot to the big city to continue my tertiary education. It was a GIANT step for me to take and I’ve felt all kinds of emotions while I was away from home. But 6 years after that, I’m still away from my parents and I’ve learned the trade of living on my own. =)

When a friend of mine sent me a text message saying that she will be getting married, in a nonchalant manner I thought she was pulling my legs. She was a roommate of mine back in the foundation centre I used to be in, and I consider her as one of my closest friends. The news turned out to be true, and it was only two weeks from the day that the text message was sent! I could not imagine that the girl who used to laugh and cry with me over face masks and boy-dramas was soon to officially become a wife!

I’ve not experienced my first cut yet as I am still in my ‘first love’ stage. I’ve been together with the same person for the past 8 years. And yes. I’m only 22.

Roughly three weeks ago, my mum announced that she was going in for knee surgery. It was her first surgery, and the first time I will experience anyone going through a surgery. Being the hyper active, energetic woman that she is, I knew it was going to be tough on her as she will not be mobile for a few weeks. She was worried. So was I. The doctor said it was a simple and common surgery. “Nothing to worry about”. And before I knew it, the surgery was over.

Falling in love is easy, getting the person whom you love takes time and effort and to make the relationship really work is real hard work and smartness. Some of the ways I found to make my serious relationship work:

a) Always remember why you fell in love with that particular person. What attracted that person to you that has caused a shiver down your spine? What was the reason that softened your heart yet made your heart beat faster to accept that particular person and not someone else?

The First Love

A good friend of mine once told me the difference between liking a person and loving them. You see, there’s something I’ve come to realise about how we attach ourselves to people. Most of the time, we like them. We like the little things they do, the funny jokes they make, the familiarity of thought, of their perceptions, something WE can relate to. In further perspective, we all look for a bit of us in a person that is very different from us. It’s an incredibly human yet also, selfish thing to do.
